The Shelter

- This is a rough draft of the information about the First Southern Baptist Church’s Shelter. We will be adding more soon so please come back again! -

In 1980s and 1990s, Drake clashed with officials of the city of Buena Park when he “turned his church parking lot and a church recreation building into a makeshift homeless shelter…”, housing groups of homeless persons for months at a time. This activity led to his conviction in July 1997 of violation of building and property usage codes.

For (period of years) the shelter at the First Southern Baptist Church of  Buena Park has helped countless homeless find the necessary help needed to re-group and start a new life. The shelter has also allowed many individuals to create a life by becoming part of the shelter’s need for volunteers to feed, cook, clean, help with donations, provide security and administrate the running and operating of a shelter.

From providing 2 meals a day, 7 days a week, not only to those residing there, but to the homeless and needy families within the community.  Many other churches who minister on site within the Sanctuary also provide evening meals on Sunday after worship service. A few also gives hair cuts free to those who attend service and meals.
